Successful Well Decommissioning and Abandonment: The value of Downhole diagnostics to perform successful permanent isolation of flow potential sources from surface.
Summary:
To determine downhole plug and cement integrity, tests are carried out at surface and downhole, such as cement bond logging and pressure testing. However, it is important to reduce rig time, the number of diagnostic runs, and uncertainties. To improve efficiency, spectral acoustics diagnostics are used to locate potential failures contributing to sustained annulus pressure and concealed crossflows in the absence of surface pressure.
This presentation discusses the application of diagnostics and targeted remediation, followed by post-remediation diagnostics verification. Several case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of these methods ; two cases will be covered in the presentation.
